Mayor delivers tickets to local Gwangju Biennale participants, gives words of encouragement

On February 7, the Gwangju Biennale Foundation prepared a meet-up to wish for the success of the 14th Gwangju Biennale and to encourage artists who participated in the Gwangju Biennale.


Gwangju Biennale Foundation Chairman and Gwangju Metropolitan City Mayor Kang Ki Jung met with 14th Gwangju Biennale and previous Biennale participants at the Gwangju City Hall to give words of encouragement and to discuss ways to develop the local culture and arts industry. 

 

Present at the event were Gwangju Metropolitan City Mayor Kang Ki Jung, Gwangju Biennale Foundation Presdient Park Yang-woo, artist Yu Jiwon who will participate in this year’s 14th Gwangju Biennale, Kang Un who participated in the 3rd (2000) and 9th (2012) edition, Park Sang Hwa who participated in the 9th (2012) and 12th (2018) editon, and Kim Seola who participated in the 11th (2016) edition. To show their support, the artists purchased tickets which were delivered to them by the Mayor.

 

Gwangju Biennale Foundation Chairman and Gwangju Metropolitan City Mayor Kang Ki Jung said, "Gwangju was able to establish itself as 'the City of Biennales' thanks to local artists who silently continued their hard work with passion for art." He added, "I hope Gwangju Biennale participants will continue to make our city of culture and art proud."

 

President of the Gwangju Biennale Foundation Park Yang-woo said, “Since its first edition in 1995, the artists who participated in the Gwangju Biennale have grown and developed further, now recognized on the international stage.” “The Gwangju Biennale will strengthen its role as a cradle for local artists to develop, while growing together with the local art industry,” he added. 


Last December, the Gwangju Biennale Foundation organized a D-100 proclamation ceremony and delivered the first ticket to its purchaser. It was held in the presence of prominent persons from various fields in civil society. Continuing from this event, various public programs with citizens leading up to the Biennale.


The 14th Gwangju Biennale soft and weak like water will take place April 7-July 9 for 94 days at the Gwangju Exhibition Hall, Gwangju National Museum, Mugaksa, Artspace House, and Horanggasy Artpolygon.
